Welcome to Light Project Pro International
About Us
Light Project Pro International (LPPI) is an educational charity established in 2004. Our mission is to create educational opportunities that empower individuals and foster social inclusion. We operate an education centre in Islington, offering a variety of projects for people of all ages. Our work brings together families and volunteers from Islington and surrounding boroughs, with a particular focus on supporting individuals at risk of social marginalisation. At LPPI, everyone is welcome to take part in our projects, as we believe in building a diverse and inclusive community where everyone can thrive.
Our values form the HEART of everything we do: Honesty, Equality, Aspiration, Respect, and Teamwork. These principles guide our efforts in creating a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to grow, collaborate, and achieve their full potential.
Organisational Background
Founded in 2004 by Michelline Safi-Ngongo, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Light Project Pro International began as a grassroots initiative to support Congolese families. Michelline saw the challenges faced by parents who lacked confidence in the English language and struggled to help their children with homework. What started as small classes of up to 10 children in Michelline’s home quickly grew and by 2005, St Mellitus Church offered its hall for a Saturday Homework Club.
LPPI officially registered as a charity in 2004, initially focusing on serving children and families within the Congolese community. Over time, our work expanded to support African and Caribbean communities, as well as Black, Minority Ethnic (BME) groups, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. This evolution has allowed us to build strong relationships within these communities and develop a deep understanding of the barriers they face in accessing education and integrating into mainstream society.

Our early work responding to community needs led us to establish strong partnerships with the local education authority and schools. These relationships have positioned us as a trusted and essential link within the educational landscape, helping us make a meaningful impact on the lives of countless families.
In 2009, LPPI achieved a significant milestone by securing our own dedicated premises at Orkney House in the heart of Islington. This space served as a Resource Centre for educational and community projects and became an official Examination Centre. Through partnerships and community engagement, we established ourselves as a quality provider of educational services.
In 2020, we moved to The Exchange, where we continue to deliver our existing educational and community initiatives. We have also introduced new projects, including our 21st Century Workplace Skills programme, which supports young people aged 18-24 as they prepare for and transition into the workplace.
Today, LPPI remains committed to its mission of promoting educational access, fostering social inclusion, and creating opportunities for all.
